{Simple Banners Step By Step Wednesday}

Hi friends,  Madge from Madge's Scrappin Lounge and I would like to welcome you to my very first Cuttin' and Stampin' DT post!!! EEK I am so excited to be with you all today! Every other week I will be bringing you a step by step type of project! Sometimes it will include a video tutorial and sometimes it may include a picture tutorial.  Let's get started shall we?? 

Remember this weeks Challenge is- Anything goes with a writing instrument.

 I used the Paper from Crate Paper the Maggie Holmes line!

First I took Three different 6x6 pieces of pattern papers and took my 2" banner punch from American Crafts and punched out 5 banner pieces from each piece of pattern paper. Making a total of 15 pieces.

(I just punched along the the bottom of each sheet of paper)

I then took this piece of paper from the Maggie Holmes line from Crate Paper

I cut the tags out across the top.  After cutting my 15 banner pieces and my 4 tags I then took several different paper embellishments and placed them in two lines on my table in  patterns.

I then took some of the new lace ribbon from 3 Girl JAM 

Now for putting your banner together! Who is ready for this quick step by step???

1. Take lace ribbon and cut to desired length, layout on table. (I made two banners with the elements that I cut)

2. Take 1 by 1 (the pattern that you made with the banner pieces, paper embellishments and tags) and using a stapler, staple each piece onto the ribbon leaving about 1/8" to 1/4" in between each piece. Continuing the pattern design you laid out on the table earlier.

4. When you are done stapling on all of your pieces, you can add some simple embellishments such as bling, buttons, stamps etc. 

5. Repeat steps 1-4 to make two separate banners or you can make one long banner it is up to you.

6. Now you are ready to hang your quick and simple banner. (The following photos of the completed banner are in my Living Room and complete my home decor piece I have in my home)

*This is a close up of the completed two banners, don't you just love how they turned out??*

*This is the completed corner in my Living Room.  I took an Old Door that had broken windows and put some chicken wire in its place. I placed it in the corner, Stacked up 3 old suitcases opening the top one which hold some of our families scrapbooks and a basket full of my mini albums.  An Old Ironing Board sits to the side of it on the left and on the right a burlap typewriter picture.  I love how the banners added so much to the door and the pictures hanging with clothes pins are the perfect touch.

Step-by-Step Sweethearts

Happy First Wednesday in February everyone!  Also, Happy First Step-By-Step Wednesday for me on the Cuttin' and Stampin' Challenges Design Team!  I'm super excited to have been selected!

This week's challenge is to create something for your Sweetheart(s).  I have 3 (my hubby, my handsome 10 year old son and my beautiful 6 year old daughter).  I have created one for this challenge, but need to get two more finished!  The paper and embellishments featured this week is Doodlebug Sweethearts.  

Today I will show you step-by-step instruction on how to create the stamp-kissed background paper I used.  To start you need a solid stamp, any shape, with no design on it, a design stamp, some ink and stamp cleaner.

I chose a solid circle from Stampin Up Simply Circles, a frilly filigree stamp from Studio 112, some ink from Stampin Up ( Mauve Mist) and my handy dandy stamp cleaning pad.

you start by inking up the filigree stamp.  This will be the design that is actually stamped on your paper.

Then you press (or kiss) the stamped filigree design onto the solid stamp.  Be careful not to rock or slide it too much.....this will affect the design that's stamped.

This is what the inked image will look like on the solid stamp.

Then you press that solid stamp onto the paper.

I have done this randomly here or there and also all over to create an entire background. *one word of advice (from my personal experience) definitely clean and dry your solid stamp after each stamping.....if you try to re-ink it, it will be quite blurred! =D

I also used a sketch for my card design.  This one came from Operation Write Home.  This is an organization that collects and ships cards to our troops overseas.

Step-by-Step 1-22-13 Arrows

I just love it when things come together and I can take care of two projects at once.  Today I will be creating a 3x4 card that can be attached to a card front or used as a pocket page filler card.  I'm follow another blog Project Life Card Swap, where we swap 3x4 and 4x6 cards.  I picket the Love theme this month which works really well with this weeks featured paper Love Notes from Crate Paper and the Paper Smooches Love Struck stamp set.  

I knew I needed to make 10 cards for trading so I started with the Lawn Fawn Stitched Journaling Card die and used it to cut two cards at a time.  This is actually the fist time I've cut more than one piece of paper at a time and I was really surprised how well it did.  I just folded my 8 1/2 x 11 paper in half and the die fit perfectly.  I was able to cut 6 from each sheet of paper. 

 I then took the Paper Smooches Love die and cut it out of the flying hearts paper.  I don't know what I was thinking, because you really can't see the hearts on it.  Then I took the die and traced the outline of it and cut it out with scissors.  I needed to create a shadow for my die cut and this is the easiest way I've found to do that.  

 I took the Love Struck stamp set and stamped and then used the metal die cut for the arrow.   I cut out the heart with the Spellbinders heat die and covered it with Glossy Accents.  After looking at it, the arrow seemed real plain so I colored it with some Wink of Stella silver and pink.

Then I did was something I don't normally recommend, but I have been know to do it a few times.  That is cut my stamp in half.  This way I can use the part of the stamp I need.  With the clear stamps it's very easy to place them back together and stamp with them as a whole unit later on. 

I used the Struck part of the stamp.  Using Versamark ink and white embossing powder really helps the word stand out.  I then took my Uni-ball white gel pen and traced along the outside of the stamp where the stitching marks from the die are.

Step-by-Step 1-15-14

This week Cuttin' and Stampin' is concentrating on winter.  I'm using Bo Bunny's Winter Wonderland paper collection to create this project.  

Here's an idea of what I started with.

Paper Smooches Fresh Snow stamp set

Bazzill Basic Paper Card Shoppe card stock 

A Muse Studio ribbon and Cupcake Topper Die set

I started with the Buttermints cardstock and cut it to 4.25" x 11" and folded it in half.  The blue cardstock is 3 7/8" x 5 1/4"  The pattern paper from the Bo Bunny collection is 3 5/8" x 5".  

I taped the pattern paper and the solid blue paper together.  I actually started with the Paper Smooches Snowflake die place the die in the upper corner of the two pieces that were taped together.  My plan was to use the Paper Smooches Snowflake die and cut out the shadow and then stamp the corresponding stamp in the cut out space.  But, there's not a stamp that matches the die.  I cut the snowflake out and then realized my mistake.  

I ended up using the Cupcake Topper die that fit just outside the edges of the snowflake I had already cut out.   I lined it up and placed my stamp in the cut out area.  I used memento teal blue to stamp the snowflake and use clear Wink of Stella over the top. 

I used a lot of foam squares to to add depth.  I used the A Muse studio ribbon across the bottom.  Then I used the A Muse Banner Flag die and stamped the sentiment on.  I traced the outside of the die so I had a shadow for the flag.
