Family Post: Week 14-7

Weekly Challenge: Spring is Here! (Oh don't we wish)

The team is celebrating the impending arrival of spring this week. We have created all sorts of wonderful projects for you using Maggie Holmes "Front Porch" paper collection (check it out here) and the Paper Smooches set "Green Thumb". Your challenge is to create something that to you represents spring.

The Green team has used both of these wonderful items to showcase their interpretation of what Spring means to them!

Hello Everyone, what do you do with 10 twelve year olds, 2 hours, $20 and whatever you can scrounge out of the community craft closet?  Oh and see if you can work in a Personal Progress discussion. By the way, It's Sunday afternoon and we will be doing this Wednesday night.  Yeah, just let me wave my magic craft dust around and see what I can create.

Did I have mentioned that I've become a YouTube junkie?  Well, Monday night I was watching and there was this great tutorial by artsongandsoul.  WOW!! Light bulb moment,  this would be PERFECT for Wednesday night.  What could be more inexpensive, easy to do and I can adapt to the program.  And of course I still needed to create my family project for the blog.

So I started with a box of cards and envelopes.  The original instructions called for 6 envelopes.  For the progress chart I was thinking about I needed eight.  I had more than enough spare boxes in the craft cave, I'm sure I won't miss them.

We took eight envelops and open them up alternating them with the flaps down the center.  I took my poking tool and made five holes though all the envelopes.  I took some hemp and used it to string the envelopes together.

After they were all secure I folded them close and trimmed just the edge off the envelopes.  This will create the pockets for the cards to slide into.

I decorated the front, back and all the inner pages.  I used and Instagram frame on the one side.  I think it's important to have a picture of themselves when they start this journey. On the other side I wrote a favorite quote on.  I didn't want to use a bunch of thick embellishments because I wanted it to lay down somewhat flat.

There are eight virtues that the church teaches to the young women.  I used a package of 4x6 cards and cut them down to fit on the front of each of the cards that will fit into the pockets.  I also punched a label and then folded it in half to create a tab.   In the inside there's a place to put the tracking sheet and journaling.

On the inside I used a printed progress chart and a place for a special quote.

Here's a picture of the final product.  I created this in just over two hours and one trip to the church book store for the teaching aids.   Because I was using this paper collection to create my example with, I wasn't able to really match the color tabs with the color of the virtue card.  I was able to do that for the girls class.

I didn't use the stamp set on this project.  It just didn't seem to fit in and it was going to be too muh of a mess to clean up when the girls were done.

Check out the Cuttin' and Stampin' store for all your scrappy supplies!

Family Valentines Day 2014

 February 14, 2014

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!

I hope you all are having a great day.  I have a last minute valentines gift for you.  It's a great little thing that you can put together in just a few minutes and great for that quick Valentine's drop off next door.

This week the Cuttin' and Stampin' design team is working with the Crate Paper Maggie Holmes paper pack and the Paper Smooches Just a Note stamp set.  I also used the Paper Smooches Scalloped Circles dies, Fiskars heart boarder punch and some Bazzill Cupcake cards stock.

I have to tell you that I finally received my We R Memory Keepers Trim and Score board and it's AWESOME to use.  I've been crafting on a card table in my living room with stuff in my pink Craftsman took bag and on the floor around me.  So when I saw this new took that takes the place of two other items I had to try it.  And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!  You can get you one from me for $22.50.  Retail Price is $29.99.

I started with my pink paper and cut it 8"x8".  I then left it on the board and scored it at 2.5" and 6.5".  I turned the paper 90 degrees and scored on the same marks again.  I then turned the paper on a 45 degree angle and used the cutting guide to score the corners.

After I scored the paper I folded it into the shape of a open box.  I just used some tape to secure the 45 degree flaps to the inside of the box.  I used the heart boarder punch on 2" pieces of the pattern paper and secured it around the top to add a boarder.

I used the Paper Smooches dies and cut 2 each of two different sizes of the scalloped circles.  I cut in between each scallop and flipped them up with my fingers.  to create the ruffled look.  I used the smallest scallop circle and cut the middle piece of the flower.  I stamped "hi" on the inner circle and popped it up with foam tape.  I then stamped out the pen, cut it out and also added some foam tape.

Of course I finished it off with a goodie bag of my favorite treats.  At the last minute I used some black Wink of Stella on the pen and to go over the "hi".  It will be perfect for visitors that will be stopping by.

You can stop by the store and pick up all the items that I used here today.

Thank for stopping by and remember you still have until Monday night to enter this week's challenge.  Anything goes with a writing instrument.

Family Sunday 2-9-14

I love having kids! I feel like they really make the holidays more fun and exciting. This Month I decided to make something that would help us Count Down to Valentine's Day... So I came up with the idea for a Love Notes board. I used the Silhouette Advent Calendar (that I am sure you will see again... because I make something new with is for each season) and the awesome Doodlebug Sweetheart collection of paper, enamel dots and stickers! I also use the ADORABLE  Paper Smooches Sweetheart stamp set on this project!  As you can see, my 2 and 5 year old also helped decorate a few hearts too! ( yes, there is even one with math problems on it from my kindergartner!)

So, each day for the 14 days up to Valentine's one of my kiddos gets to pick a heart of the board.  Each heart has a simple note telling them how much I love and appreciate them OR has an activity we get to do that day ( play doh, go to the library, go swimming etc).  It is a fun way to stay busy during winter without always doing the same things.

I hope that this inspires you to make something creative for your family this Valentine's Day!

Weekly Challenge #45 - Monday

#45
Challenge:  Anything Goes with a Family twist

November 12 - 18, 2013

We are celebrating family this week.

A Monday hello from Vickie at On The Fringe

The challenge this week at Cuttin' and Stampin' is Anything Goes with a Family Twist!  I used the Paper Smooches sentiments from the Kinfolk and Birthday Sampler stamp sets.  The large owl was cut from a sizzix die and paper pieced using SU DSP; the background paper on the card is from Doodlebug Happy Harvest.  The small owl next to the larger owl's heart is a doodlebug owl sticker.  The chipboard flourish is Organic Vine Corner from Blue Fern Studios, the flowers are from Petaloo.

Please make sure your creation post has a link back to Cuttin' and Stampin'

Thanks for playing along we will be announcing the winners on November 22, 2013.
